Unikrn.com Review for 2018

Have you heard of Unikrn.com (pronounced “unicorn”)?

They’re an esports exclusive sportsbook who offers real money betting to customers in select countries, and play-money betting using their Unikoin cryptocurrency for everyone else.

What are Unikoins? Unikoins are tokens.

They’re also a form of cryptocurrency. The same people behind Unikrn.com created and own them. I recommend you read eSportsBettingReport.com if you want to learn a little more about that – including how you can buy them.

Fortunately for everyone here, you don’t have to buy them if you don’t want to. In our review below, I explain how you can get them for free, and how you can use these to win more tokens by betting on e-sports matches, as well as use them to win prizes.

We also cover the usual stuff, such as the banking options they accept, promotions they’re running, and the games and tournaments you can bet on. And much, much more.

Let’s get to it.

Who owns and operates Unikrn.com? How long have they been in business?

Unikrn.com was started by Rahul Sood. He used to be an employee at Microsft, and is most known for the Bing Fund – Microsoft’s first ever incubation fund for startups. He and his co-founder, Karl Flores, soft-launched Unikrn.com in late 2014 and publicly launched in April 2015.

The betting aspect of their company comes largely, if not entirely from their partnership with TabCorp. They’re a multi-billion-dollar Australian gambling company. This is why some players – depending on where they’re viewing Unikrn.com from – will see Luxbet in their player backend.

Luxbet is the sportsbook owned and managed by TabCorp Holdings. They offer a full-blown, traditional sportsbook.

Unikrn’s other partners come in the form of investors – Ashton Kutcher and Mark Cuban arguably being the most well-known examples.

How’s their reputation? What do others think of them?

Unikrn.com is only a couple years old and still unheard of. There are a few websites who have written reviews about them. Other than that, I haven’t seen much else in terms of forum or Reddit posts, or scam accusations.

Since Unikrn.com works with Luxbet for their real money betting, I looked them up to see what others think of them.

I found out that Luxbet has been around for nearly 10 years now (2008), and they seem to have average to above average reviews depending on where you look.

What countries are allowed to play here?

You can bet for real money if you’re from one of the following countries:

  • American Samoa
  • Belgium
  • Brazil
  • Canada
  • China
  • Denmark
  • Dutch Antilles
  • France
  • French Guiana
  • French Guinea
  • French Polynesia
  • French Southern Territories
  • Germany
  • Hong Kong
  • Hungary
  • India
  • Indonesia
  • Iran
  • Ireland
  • Italy
  • Luxembourg
  • Malta
  • Netherlands
  • North Korea
  • Pakistan
  • Poland
  • Portugal
  • Russia
  • Singapore
  • South Korea
  • Spain
  • Taiwan
  • Turkey
  • United Arab Emirates
  • United Kingdom
  • US Virgin Islands
  • Vietnam

That said, even if you can’t bet for real money, you should be able to bet for fun using their Unikoins. That’s what I was able to do, and I’m from the United States.

How do you contact Unikrn.com? When are they available?

PHONE: 1-224-338-6457

I sent them an email to ask about deleting bets and their marketplace. I received a response in 3-4 hours. So, no complaints here.

They have live chat too, but I found that it’s only available for players who can bet for real money.

Support is available in English only.

What payment methods do Unikrn.com accept?

Not many, and it depends on where you’re from.

For Americans – nothing, as they don’t allow them to bet for real money. They don’t even have a cashier with their payment options in the player backend (not in mine, at least).

For everyone else – it’ll probably still depend a little. But according to their FAQs you can use:

  • Credit cards
  • Direct bank transfers
  • BPAY
  • POLi

They don’t list their options but based on the few other reviews I’ve seen, I’d assume you can use the same options to cash out. They say nothing about limits – for either deposits or cash outs – in their FAQs.

You should expect cash outs to take 3-7 days depending if you’re in Australia (1-3 days) or somewhere else (up to 7 days).

It doesn’t look like they charge fees for deposits or cash outs, which is good news.

Unikrn.com is a little different in the promotions department.

They do still offer a welcome bonus, but it’s not promoted well – it’s easy to miss. In fact, when I first wrote this section I didn’t see a bonus and wrote they didn’t offer one.

But then I found it
a 200% match bonus

When you make a deposit of $25 or more, you’ll receive an additional $50 in bonus bets. You’ll need to roll this over on single bets at odds of 1.50 or higher, and you’ll have 14 days to do it.

It sounds like this offer is available only for players in QLD, TAS, ACT and NT. Which makes sense as I reviewed their site using a VPN routed through Australia.

For everyone else, your mileage will vary.

Now, there is something everyone can participate in, regardless if you’re betting for fun or real money. And that’s earning and using their Unikoins.

You can use Unikoins to make bets on esports matches. You can’t win real money this way, but you can earn more tokens.

You can use these tokens to buy raffle tickets for prizes in their marketplace.

So, how do you get these tokens?
Pretty easily, actually. There are many ways to earn/win tokens.

For example, you will receive tokens for:

  • Creating and confirming your account.
  • Signing into your account daily.
  • Referring friends.
  • Completing their daily quests.
  • For connecting your gaming accounts and playing games
  • Following Unikrn or their partner on social media.
  • Signing up to their newsletter(s).

And that’s on top of the Unikoins you’ll receive for winning bets made in their sportsbook.

Their raffle/marketplace is interesting. You can use the tokens you’ve accumulated to buy raffle tickets that will be used in drawings for real prizes. You can see all the things they’re giving away on their website.

When I reviewed them, they were only giving away things like gaming skins and bundles. Though, their FAQ does say they also give away gift cards and even expensive items, like a HP Omen gaming laptop.

I didn’t see anything like that, though (from the USA *OR* Australia).

They also say they do Funko POP! vinyl collectibles giveaways, but I have yet to see one or how it works.

And that’s it.

One other thing – You’ll want to get a Steam account if you don’t already have one IF you plan to enter a drawing. Because if/when you win a drawing, they’ll transfer the skins/bundles to you via Steam within 2 business days.

Overall Thoughts

It’s interesting that Unikrn.com doesn’t really offer a bunch of your traditional gambling bonuses or promotions.

But I guess you could say this isn’t exactly a traditional online (esports) sportsbook, either. I think the Unikoins and raffle are proof of that.

What I like most about their Unikoins is that it gives Americans (and other prohibited players/countries) the ability to bet for fun and still win prizes (of some value). I’m not even an esports bettor, but even I’ll log in periodically to collect my free tokens, place a few bets and enter a few raffles.

I mean, why not?

It’ll be interesting to see how this works for Unikrn.com in the long run.

Okay, let’s talk about the most important thing – their sportsbook.

Other reviews say they have a pretty large selection of markets and betting options. I don’t have much experience with (esports) betting, so it’s difficult for me to confirm. But I can tell you what I found while I reviewed them, and you can be the judge.

The following list are the games, leagues and tournaments Unikrn.com had listed when I was there:

  • League of Legends (LoL)
  • Counter Strike: Global Offensive
  • DOTA 2
  • Overwatch
  • Rocket League
  • Starcraft 2
  • Heroes of the Storm
  • Call of Duty
  • Hearthstone
  • World of Tanks
  • FIFA

They cover all sorts of competitions, too. For example:

  • WellPlay
  • ROG
  • Kings Cup
  • WESG
  • DH
  • ECS
  • ESG
  • GSL
  • SSL
  • HGC
  • NA LCS

As for the types of bets you can make, you can bet on who will win a specific map, winner of the first map, over/under total maps, handicaps (-1.5 or -2.5 maps), and so on.

Unikrn.com offers live streaming of matches, too. I didn’t have any money in my account, and I was able to load and watch the stream, no problem.

However, they don’t offer live betting. Though, with live streaming, you’d think it’d be an option – if not now, then definitely later.

You can use their site easily from your desktop/laptop browser. Their site is pretty intuitive to use; though I think they could probably improve their coding, as I clicked on a few links a few times and it took a few tries for it to register and take me to the page I wanted.

Their site is also mobile responsive. I checked it out from my iPhone and their site looked and functioned just fine.

I’ve read that they said they’re working on (native) apps, but I found nothing about that on their site.

Here are a few random odds and ends I feel are important to know about betting at Unikrn.com.

  • Their profit margin ranges from price matches to 106.3%. I’m not the most experienced in sports betting, but I think this is pretty average, maybe a tad high.
  • You cannot cancel bets once you submit them. Unikrn.com told me the only way you get out of bets is if the event is canceled. This was for bets made with Unikoins, though – they didn’t say if there are exceptions for real money bettors.
  • Their min bet is $1. They don’t mention their max bet anywhere I could find, but I’ve seen it mentioned elsewhere that it’s $250.
  • You can view/place bets in either decimal or fractional odds.
  • They price their own Counter-Strike markets, which – according to experts – means you can sometimes find profitable opportunities.

That’s it.

Other than offering only esports, Unikrn.com is more or less a traditional online sportsbook.
What do we think of Unikrn.com? Do we recommend them to our readers?
Yeah, I think so.

It’s hard to say if everyone will like them, as there are a few things they do differently. But I tried them out using their Unikoins, and think they have an interesting product. I’d go back, and I can’t even bet here for real money.

I think gamers will especially enjoy the Unikoins aspect, as you can bet on your favorite esports teams or leagues, and use any winnings (in tokens) to enter raffles and whatnot for gaming merchandise.

That said, it’d be nice to see more bonuses, banking options and more transparency with information revolving around banking and betting limits.

The Bottom Line

Unikrn.com seems safe enough to check, and they have an interesting product. For those reasons – if you’re into esports or esports betting opportunities

I recommend you check them out.

Definitely keep an eye on this company. Regular betting using their crypto token, UnikoinGold, goes live in Q1 for jurisdiction that allow it. Live betting which you listed in Hit & Misses will go live in August. Also, the US Supreme Court ruling regarding sports gambling will be sometime this summer. If things go well, it won't be long until esport betting will be available in various US states.
