Let me ask you a question – are you interested in getting more than R10,000 in bonuses and having access to more than 100 casino games?
Then you’ll want to read our Springbok Casino review. They’re a 5-year old casino who focuses on the South African market. They offer several promotions and games I think many of our readers will enjoy.
However, there are a few things I don’t like about them. Things, I think, some people won’t be able to look past. You wouldn’t be able to hold it against them, either.
We cover all these details – good and bad – in our review below. Give it a read and by the time that you’re done, you should have a pretty good idea as to whether Springbok is the right casino for you.
Let’s get to it.
We’re not going to waste any time – let’s go over the bad news first.
Springbok Casino doesn’t have an about page – nothing I could find, anyway – nor did I find much information about them online.
What I can tell you is that they’ve been in business since 2012. And that they also own and operate (or, are otherwise connected to) Thunderbolt Casino.
The most information I could find I found on their e-gaming license website. So, the good news is that they’re licensed (in Curacao). But I’d still like more information about their company.
I mean, how often do people do business with companies they know nothing about?
Springbok Casino does not accept players from the following countries:
I Googled a few scam phrases and didn’t anything negative worth reporting. All I found are your average complaints.
ThePogg.com doesn’t recommend them, which isn’t surprising. Their main reason is Springbok (allegedly) have ties to the Jackpot Capital Group (whom is accredited at Casinomeister.com), who has ties with Deck Media. Both of which ThePogg.com has problems with.
I did some research on this myself, but did not find any evidence that the 2-3 groups are connected.
Other than that, everything else I found is pretty neutral. They have 5 complaints on AskGamblers.com, but each one has been resolved. They have average to slightly above average ratings everywhere else.
So, their reputation isn’t overwhelmingly positive, but there’s nothing to worry about, either.
You have a couple of options for reaching out to support. You can use:
Live chat support is also available on their website.
They accept the following payment methods:
The minimum deposit for all options is R25. There doesn’t appear to be any fees. ZAR is the only currency accepted/used.
Your options are:
Depending on the option you choose, you’ll have to wait 2-20 days for your cash out.
They do. You can claim a match bonus of as much as 100%, up to R11,500. This is spread out over your first 3 deposits, like so:
This is a decent bonus in terms of size. But it’s structured a bit funny. You claim about $115 on your first deposit, then an additional $775 over the next two.
They don’t clarify what the limits are, either – if there are any – for the 2nd and 3rd deposits. I’d assume that you can claim whatever you want, and they’ll cap you at R10,000.
The playthrough for this offer is 30x the deposit and bonus, which is average …maybe a tad high. And you can play (only) these games to fulfill the playthrough: 7-stud poker, bingo games, European slot poker, keno, pai gow poker, scratch cards and all slots. Playing any other (excluded) game will immediately void your bonus and winnings.
Other than that – the maximum bet for all bonuses is R100.
These terms will also apply to all their other bonuses, unless stated otherwise.
They have a comp points program. You get 1 point for every R10 you spend. Every 100 points you collect can later be exchanged for R1.
They have a few nice offers, though the non-welcome deposit bonuses are on the small side. But at least that means you can get through the playthrough a little faster. The way the welcome bonus is structured is a little odd, too – but that’s not a big deal or anything.
I do like the cashback offer, as you get a little extra to play with in the inevitable situation where you bust your bankroll.
Overall, it’s nice to see a variety of unique offers.
Springbok uses Real Time Gaming software. This gives you 120+ games to play.
The downside is that I think Real Time Gaming software – by itself – is a little boring. I’ve seen it used so much in the US market.
Then there are several casinos who also cater to South African players who work with multiple software companies, including heavy weights like Microgaming and Playtech. RTG has nothing compared to either of these companies, much less both when combined.
An upside – maybe – is that the South African market is still newish and growing. So, Real Time Gaming software and games might still feel fresh and not played out like it does in other markets.
That said, I hope Springbok has plans to add to or improve their current setup in the near future.
Here are some of the games you can play:
One of the few benefits to Real Time Gaming software are all their blackjack variants. Would you believe that there are some casinos who, despite working with one of the ‘heavy hitters,’ only offer 1 or 2 BJ variants?
This is a modest list, though you’ll find a few more games in their download. Also keep in mind that this is in addition to all their blackjack games listed above.
This is a modest list of roulette variants. But I do like seeing the French variant (best player odds), as well as the multiplayer roulette (for a small change of pace).
This is another benefit to Real Time Gaming – lots and lots of video poker games. In addition to all these unique video poker titles, you can play multi-hand variants, too.
I have a couple of thoughts about their slots:
They have a solid selection overall. You’ll find plenty of variety between 3 and 5-reel classic and video slots, as well as slots with bonuses, multipliers, features, wilds, progressives and so on.
They have slot tournaments, too. Some are freerolls, which means you don’t have to pay to enter them, yet you can still win real money prizes. Though they often do offer add-ons, which allows you to add real money, which in turn boosts the prize pool and the amount you can potentially win.
Their slot tournaments routinely have guaranteed 5 or 6-figure prize pools, so if that’s worth a look if you’re into tournaments.
While I think RTG software is sort of played out, the brighter side of things is to realize how diverse their smaller selection of games is. They have just about any type of game you’d want to play, between their slots, table, blackjack and video poker games.
The biggest thing missing, I see, are live dealer games. Other than maybe adding games from other software providers, that’s what I’d hope would be next on their to-do list.
You have 3 options for how to play their games – a download, instant play (browser) casino, or mobile.
If you want access to ALL their games, then go with the download. Otherwise, for the sake of keeping things simple and light, I’d recommend using their browser casino.
They do have a mobile casino, which is compatible with iOS and Android devices. You can check it out, along with most/all of their games and progressive jackpots on their website.
There are a few things that stand out to me. In no particular order:
Here are some of the things I do like about them:
I don’t yet have a ton of experience in the South African online gambling market. So, it’s hard for me to say where exactly I think Springbok fits in the overall scheme of things.
So, here’s what I’m thinking:
If you have access to a Microgaming and/or Playtech powered casino, then chances are – from a gaming perspective – you’ll be much happier there. This might be more or less true depending on what games you want to play, or if promotions are important to you. But overall, I think most people (on average) will be happier at a Playtech or Microgaming casino.
The lack of transparency of who owns/operates their company is also a problem for me …and probably will be for a large percentage of our readers. There are plenty of other legit casinos who are transparent about who they are, where they do business from, etc.
But, if you can get past that, and you’re not feeling confined with the games list from above, then I see no reason not to check out Springbok Casino.
